Norwest & Energia
Early last year, Adamson Systems Engineering embarked on a project that they felt could possibly change the face of concert touring. The project was named Energia. The basis behind Energia was conceived after years of analysing the inefficiencies found in sound reinforcement and performance venue optimisation.
The key components of Energia include a series of new loudspeaker systems with networkable class D amplifier modules, DSP, cable and power distribution, AVB network hardware with software integration of control, three-dimensional simulation and diagnostics. To ensure the reliability and a smooth integration of the technology, there are three phases involved in the release of the first loudspeaker system in Project Energia:
Phase 1: Mechanical Field Testing
Phase 2: Class D Amplifier, Power Distribution and Ground Control Field Testing
Phase 3: Network and Network Hardware Field Testing
To help Energia evolve, Adamson has enlisted the help of a few well known and respected production companies around the globe. Their job is to conduct mechanical field tests evaluating the transducers, sound chambers and mechanical elements.
The first box revealed is known as the E15 and Adamson Engineering–along with CMI Music and Audio–are proud to announce that Norwest Productions has joined the illustrious group of beta partners with the purchase of 32 E15 line array cabinets (RRP $35,000 each).
E15 systems are currently on tour around the world with the likes of Duran Duran, Offspring and Linkin Park. Keep an eye and an ear out for the E15 during this summer’s festival season.
Beta Partners worldwide include: BIG DADDY ENTERTAINMENT GROUP (INDONESIA), EIGHTH DAY SOUND SYSTEMS (US & UK), FLUGE (SPAIN), MPM (FRANCE), SLS (FRANCE), WIGWAM ACOUSTICS LTD (UK) and TEAM 108 (SINGAPORE)

Adamson chosen for Hillsong Church upgrade
Hillsong Church is among the largest and best recognised churches in the world with branches in London, Stockholm, Paris, Moscow and New York City, though Australia’s Baulkham Hills Campus remains the organisation’s flagship. Its audio system has to cope with a wide variety of content, ranging from quietly spoken program material right through to full-blown rock bands. The Adamson system – comprising Y-Axis, Spektrix and Metrix line source systems – was selected by the church’s in house audio team, headed by Andrew Crawford and Steve LeRoux, after a reported period of testing and evaluation taking in several leading brands.
The completed installation – proposed and demonstrated by Adamson and CMI with the assistance of Norwest productions – consists of 34 Y-10 co-linear line source elements with an under hang of eight Spektrix 15-degree enclosures. For delays there are 18 Metrix elements while low frequencies are fulfilled by six T-21 subwoofers flown in a dual cardioid configuration with two additional T21 and Metrix subs beside the stage. A further six Metrix subs are flown behind the main arrays for low frequency extension. The system is currently being installed by Brad Law and Cuepoint, and is expected to be completed by February 2011.
Speaking of the church’s decision to opt for his company’s design, Peter Trojkovic of CMI Music & Audio described himself as ‘extremely privileged and excited at being awarded the contract to supply such a world class facility. It is extra satisfying that the contract has been awarded because of the overall performance of the system and system design as supplied by Adamson Systems and CMI.’
In addition to the Baulkham Hills Campus, Hillsong has also chosen Adamson & CMI to provide an equivalent solution for its newly-acquired Waterloo campus in 2011.
C3 Church Hepburn Heights upgrades to Adamson Metrix

C3 Church Hepburn Heights is a modern, vibrant & dynamic church that has grown to be one of Perth’s leading houses of worship. Following an extensive review during the latter part of 2010, and after trying many different brands and models of sound reinforcement, the volunteer group at C3 decided to select Adamson’s Metrix system.
The system consists of 2 x Metrix-t and 1 x Metrix-w cabinets flown per side, plus 1 x Point12A for center fill, reinforced by 2 x Dual 15" Metrix Subs - all powered by MC2 amplifiers and XTA speaker processing.
The system was supplied by leading Australian dealer CMI Music & Audio, which designed and installed the system in conjunction with Perth-based installation company 3 Monkeys. The brief was to give the church maximum coverage and also allow for the fact that the building had had noise issues with its neighbours in the past, making directivity paramount.
‘The system just sounds fantastic,’ said Mr Rowan Hunter of 3 Monkeys. ‘It sounds so good and is so small, it’s just perfect.’ Mr Hunter has had a close association with the church over many years and led the install team. ‘We used just two Metrix T boxes and one Metrix W per side, yet the SPL hits all the right spots,’ he added.
The C3 church is a multi generational, dynamic and vibrant international movement of churches enjoying a reputation of balance and integrity since it was formed in August 1975. It was founded and led by Phil Pringle of C3 Church Oxford Falls in Sydney, Australia. C3 Church Hepburn Heights also has special links with churches it has planted and adopted over the course of its history.
Rockwiz hits the road with Y Axis
It had to happen! Dugald (The Roadie) broke the RocKwiz team out of the confines of the Gershwin Room and bumped them into a live Australian tour!
Mistress of ceremonies Julia Zemiro; co-host Brian Nankervis; the legendary RocKwiz Orkestra and Dugald (with mystery guests in tow) toured the country for the first time ever in the show’s five year on-air history.
The technical logistics to take this show on the road were immense-and Norwest Productions’ Melbourne office was up to the challenge.
Tim Millikan (the show’s front of house engineer) worked closely with the Norwest team to ensure all PA aspects for the various venues would be covered. Norwest auditioned an Adamson Y10 and T21 system to Tim to show the flexibility, ease of set up and -above all- the audio quality was ready to take on the task.
“I was looking for a full range line array cabinet that wasn’t too big and the Y axis answered all my questions. After speaking to the Norwest guys I was very interested and I headed over for listen and loved what I heard” says Tim. The high energy format of the show required the PA to deliver great speech intelligibility and a wide dynamic range for the live acts and replay segments. All of which Adamson Y-Axis series have handled with ease: ‘I have had a great deal of fun mixing through this PA - the natural response is just something else’, he continued.
The tour finished with the last two shows at the Palais Theatre in St Kilda - across the road from the show’s usual home, the Espy Hotel. The last night’s featured guests were Ella Hooper and Angry Anderson. Y 18’s were brought in for the final shows as they were booked out and needed something bigger. The system used comprised of 12 Y 18’s, 4 Y 10’s as under hangs, 2 x T21 subwoofers, 2 x M15 monitors for near field and 2 x M12s to plug the caps.
