Richard Pleasance has emerged as one of Australia's most versatile score composers in the last three years through his work on the successful ABC-TV series "SeaChange" and has recently turned his hand towards several successful projects in the recording industry.
He produced Archie Roach's new album "Sensual Being" and has been arranging and producing songs for Paul Kelly's next album.
In addition Richard has written and recorded the music for the reality lifestyle TV series "Life On The Lawn" which is expected to air next year. Richard has also produced a version of "Everone's A Winner" performed by Kate Ceberano for the new Australian feature film, "Horseplay".
Within the score of "SeaChange"- there was a wide range of music from the laid back ambience which underpins the series to the spaghetti western undertones of the final episode of series two or the jazzy trumpet music of Bones Blaxell which was such a hit with viewers of Series Three. The "SeaChange" theme song has become one of the most recognisable pieces of music in Australia since the series debuted in 1998.
Richard first came to prominence as a musician as a member of Australian rock band Boom Crash Opera. Their debut single "Great Wall", co-written by Richard, reached number 5 on the ARIA National chart, their self-titled debut album went Gold and their second album, co-produced by Richard, spent more than 12 months in the National Top 40, achieving double platinum sales with the top 10 single "Onion Skin" and top 20 singles "Get Out Of The House", "Best Thing" and "Dancing In The Storm".
Richard's fist solo album "Galleon" was released in 1991 and was nominated for five ARIA Awards. A successful national support tour with Elvis Costello followed. He is currently working on his third solo album.
Since writing and recording with Boom Crash Opera for their 3rd album "Fabulous Beat" in 1992, Richard has produced, written and played with such diverse talents as Jon Stevens, Seven Stories, Nick Barker, Kate Ceberano, Deborah Conway and Suzanne Vega.
In addition to his work as a record producer and score composer, Richard has composed music for a variety of documentary series and television commercials. |
