CX & CMI’s Banana Shootout
On 22 November, CMI–in conjunction with CX Magazine–hosted a show called ‘Maximise Your Audio Investment’. Chris Kennedy from Norwest Productions was the key note speaker, discussing his past and present purchases and sharing what he has learned along the way.
Also featured was a panel group led by CX publisher, Julius Grafton that also featured Chris Kennedy plus CMI’s Peter Trojkovic and Andy McIntyre. Julius asked questions while the others discussed their experiences and took questions from the floor.

After this, everyone then proceeded outside where they were greeted by a huge truss structure with three line arrays hanging behind a black scrim. The 60-odd delegates were given a score card and asked to rate each system on different performance aspects such as speech, mid range, low end and high end coverage. The three systems were all respected brands and all were what are classed as mid size line arrays with 12” and 10” speakers.

While the scores were being added up, CMI invited everyone to listen to the vast collection of line arrays they represent in the Australian market which included HK Audio, Adamson Engineering, dB Technologies and Duran Audio’s beam-steering Intellivox. Jimmy from CX then announced the scores and to everyone’s surprise it was the most cost effective system that rated the highest.

CMI Music & Audio would like to thank CX for their involvement and all the delegates who took time out from their businesses to attend. Also, congratulations must go to Peter Morris of Adelaide Sound & Lighting on winning the prize for correctly choosing all three brands and models in the Banana Shootout.
Just remember: the bigger the banana, the better the performance.
