HK Audio: News
HK Contour, MC2 and XTA running by The Clock
A 5.1 surround system consisting of HK Contour CT-115 and CT-108 mid/high cabinets, CT-118 subwoofers, MC2 amps and XTA processing was recently installed by SOS Communications into Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art for Christian Marclay’s groundbreaking 24-hour video work, The Clock.
The MCA website describes The Clock thus: The Clock has attracted record crowds wherever it has been shown. Christian Marclay was awarded the Golden Lion for best artist at last year’s 54th Venice Biennale for The Clock.
Be amazed by the scale and ingenuity of the project. The Clock comprises several thousand short extracts from cinema history, each suggesting a particular time of day or referencing a specific moment, often through the appearance of a watch or clock-face. Marclay has stitched these extracts together to form a continuous visual sequence synchronised with the real time of your visit – if it is noon you’ll be watching a scene referencing noon. Even more impressively, the scenes suggest countless interlocking narratives despite the constant changes in genres, eras, locations and plotlines.
To honour this extraordinary achievement, you’ll be able to experience The Clock around the clock! The Clock will be shown in its entirety on the MCA’s opening day, Thursday 29 March 2012, and then played continuously during regular museum opening hours. Every subsequent Thursday there will be another special 24-hour presentation of this work. To keep you awake, coffee and refreshments wil be available from the MCA Cafe throughout the night.
Born in California in 1955 and raised in Switzerland, Christian Marclay now lives between London and New York. He has employed the concept of collage since the 1970s across diverse media including film and video, photography, installation, sound and music. This premiere presentation of The Clock in Australia is an extraordinary opportunity to see and experience a major international artistic phenomenon.
Exhibition dates & hours: 29 March-3 June 2012 | Normal Museum hours except Thursdays – 24 hours from 10am

HK Audio CADIS, MC2 and XTA impresses at St Phillip’s
St Phillip’s Christian College Newcastle has recently completed work on a brand new 400-seat auditorium at their Waratah campus.
Scott Travis of Castle Acoustic Productions was engaged by the school to design the venue’s audio systems and knowing that the system had to cater for everything from rock bands to speech, yet had to fit within a tight budget, Scott chose HK Audio’s CADIS. The system consist of 8 x CAD-208 mid/high modules mounted on factory wall-brackets, HK Audio PRO-18 subwoofers, MC2 Ti-Series amplifiers and is controlled by an XTA-DC1048 loudspeaker processor.
The rig was installed by Custom Audio of Newcastle and optimised by Simon Tait of CMI. 'I’m very impressed by this level of performance from a system in this price range', says Scott. 'The transient response of the system and overall intelligibility is awesome. It’s everything I’ve come to expect from HK'.

HK Audio at Port Life Church
Portlife Church is situated between the Port River and Semaphore in Adelaide, South Australia.
With a very strong focus on young adults within the fellowship, a huge love of music has led to the need to upgrade the PA system within their main auditorium. This was a decision that was not going to be rushed. After asking around the church community in South Australia, it wasn’t long before they came across Angelo Tullio from H.E.A.R (High End Audio Research). Angelo has been in the audio business for many years working as a consultant and installer. Angelo has also been involved in manufacturing and designing some very complex acoustic panels to assist in enhancing a room’s acoustics and reducing reverberation times.
Technical director, Dennis Lord – along with senior minister Josh Poyzer, Youth Minister Kevin Hall and intern Minister Anthony Tucker – all worked together with Angelo to ensure the best result possible would be achieved: ‘It was fantastic working with Angelo and his guys – they are super professional and the outcome is something we here at the church are all very proud of’, says Dennis.
Angelo went down the path of selecting HK Audio Contour Series. ‘I have used the HK Audio stuff before at both Victory Church and Salt Church. It is very well built and you can tell they spend a lot of time getting the box to sound amazing’, says Angelo. ‘For this system I have gone with 2 x CT-115s out of the Contour series and then CT-118s for low end reinforcement’, he continues.
Driving the HK front-of-house system are MC2 T-3500 amplifiers and an XTA DP426. ‘The T series amplifiers are just great sounding units with plenty of head room... (they are) very serious and very clean sounding’, says Angelo. ‘I love the XTA processor – it is the first time I have used one of these and its ease-of-use is terrific. It has lots of processing power and, as a result, truly brings out the best in the speakers’, he concludes.

The Commodore Hotel: One Systems & HK Audio in audio upgrade
Situated in Blues Point Rd North Sydney, The Commodore Hotel is indeed one of the town’s finest and most beautiful places to enjoy a beverage and a bite. Having recently undergone extensive renovations, the time was right to upgrade their audio systems using HK and One Systems.
Mark McAvoy of BE Productions was appointed by the Commodore to manage the installation, which included HK Audio IL8.1 cabinets for the front bar and One Systems’ brilliantly engineered 108IM weatherproof speakers for outside. The brief also called for a zoned solution involving the gaming area, function rooms and restrooms which was ably handled using a combination of dB Technologies and DSPPA amplifiers and celing mount speakers. HK Elements are in place
For the first time ever HK Audio Elements merges the benefits of modern line array technology with the easy handling of ultra-compact PA systems. No matter how large the audience or what size the venue, you can put together a system suitable for every situation using just the six components of the HK Audio Elements system. If it’s just for supporting a presentation or for powerful band audio with a whopping 3.6 kW, Elements handles it all with ease. And as Elements is consistently based on line array technology, the sonic results are always superb—just as you would expect from HK Audio.
Setting up the Elements system and tearing it down again is as easy as 1, 2, 3. Thanks to E-Connect, the novel integrated signal routing, even the largest Elements setup is performance-ready in just a few minutes with a minimum of cabling. Due to the extremely compact and rugged design, every configuration fits easily into a compact car. With Elements, transportation is no longer a hassle.

The elements in detail: E435: The elegant mid/high unit is made from extruded aluminum, is strictly based on line array technology and provides a very even and rich sound field. It houses four 3.5” broadband speakers, and with its mere 2.5 kg it’s a true lightweight. Thanks to E-Connect, the E435 quickly and easily connects with other modules. EA600: The amp module has the same look as the E435, thus blending in superbly both visually and technically. The Class D power amp puts out 600 watts, enough for four mid/high units or one passive sub and two additional mid/high units. Again, with only 2.75 kg the power amp is a breeze to tote. EF35: This stand is equipped with extendable feet, thus serving as a solid base for mid/high units, amp modules or the mounting pole. E110 SubA: This very portable 10” subwoofer weighs only 19 kg and delivers an amazingly precise low-end. The digital Class D power amp provides 600 watts, enough to feed another passive subwoofer or two more mid/high units. Equipped with two E-Connect sockets, the E110 Sub A also serves as a base for additional elements. The integral handle makes it comfortable to carry. E110 Sub: For applications with a need for more low-end, this passive sub is the ideal add-on. It is powered by an active E110 or an amp module. To accommodate auxiliary elements, this sub is equipped with an E-Connect socket. EP1: The mounting pole vastly facilitates rigging up smaller Elements setups. It is continuously adjustable and provides cordless signal routing to the mid/high units.
For safe and convenient transport, three models of protective bags are available. One model holds four mid/high units or amp modules and a mounting pole, another fits one stand, and a third one subwoofer. For more information, contact CMI Audio on 03 9315 2244. |
