Hughes & Kettner Artist - Nina Treml |
News has it that the
latest addition to the Hughes & Kettner roster
is Nina Treml of Swiss Rock/Metal band 69
Chambers. Nina is pictured at right with her
Coreblade rig. COREBLADE is the flagship of Hughes
& Kettner’s line of programmable tube amps.
Packing a whopping 100 watts, the head delivers tough
tone, unbridled dynamic response, and an explosive
punch.
According to their Myspace: 69 Chambers are heavy
riffing guitars counterpointed by Nina Treml’s
pop-oriented vocals, while Maddy Madarasz’ driving
bass and Diego Rapacchietti’s blasting drums
form a tight and solid wall of sound. The Swiss rock/metal-threepiece
was formed by the guitar-playing frontlady in 2001
and soon made a loud impact at the «Universal
Breakthru Contest», recorded an EP as well as
a video and gave their international debut at the
«Pentaport Festival» in Incheon, South
Korea amongst reknowned bands like «Muse»
and «Testament». After experiencing the
unfreedom in the «Land Of The Free» for
some time, Nina returned to Switzerland with 13 powerful
songs to record the debut album: an uncompromising
work full of contradictions and unique melodies. The
album «War On The Inside» (produced by
Tommy Vetterli at New Sound Studio, Switzerland) was
released in April/ May 2009 worldwide under the label
Silverwolf Productions.

 It's
not often we receive testimonials from happy clients and
- as we're always chuffed to receive them - we like to
report them when they come in.
Martin Collyer (pictured left), of Sydney, recently made
contact with NSW territory manager Nathan Brady looking
for a Hughes & Kettner Statesman Quad EL84 combo.
Nathan pointed Martin to Dream Music in Belmore who had
recently purchased one for stock from CMI.
Martin knew he was on to the right amp because he tried
it at the store and knew very quickly that it was the
amp for him. Below is Martin's letter to Jimmy at Dream
Music after he made his purchase:
Hi Jimmy,
You're probably aware by now, I came into the shop on
Saturday, tried the Statesman, loved it and bought it.
I've been looking for a new amp for many months and came
close a couple of times, but there was always something
about the amps I tried that didn't quite fit what I was
looking for. There's nothing about the Statesman that
I'd want to change.

  We've
recently received a shipment of Hughes & Kettner ATTAX
100-watt, single 12" combos.
Back in the 90s, ATTAX amps were celebrated milestones
in solid-state amp history. They married brute force power
to subtle sound-sculpting options, with versatility and
uncompromising finishing quality thrown in for good measure.
Ten years on, the masterminds who brought you the Tri-Amp
and the Switchblade have revitalised the ATTAX, pairing
its proven virtues with the latest technology.
Four powerful channels, three effect modules individually
configurable for each channel, and a phantom sound tech
that activates your effect settings automatically when
you switch channels, now that's what is needed to deliver
the goods both on, and off, stage.
The ATTAX 100 is endowed with a power amp featuring the
same current feedback used in tube power amps. Current
flowing through the speaker feeds back into the power
amp to lend a distinct tube-approved flavour to its response.

 The
new Hughes & Kettner Statesman™ Series is the first to
combine “Open-Back Vintage Clean” and “Closed-Back-Stack
Overdrive” in one all-tube amp. (St. Wendel, March 2007)
The new Statesman™ all-tube guitar amps from Hughes &
Kettner cover the full spectrum of classic amp sounds
from “Early 60’s Clean” to “Early 80’s Overdrive.” This
sophisticated design is the first to combine two opposite
poles of the tone world into one tube amp: “Vintage Open-Back
Clean” in the one channel, and the massive tone of a 4x12”
half-stack in the Overdrive channel.
These two-channel amps will be available in four versions:
three combo amp models with 20, 40 or 60 watts, and a
head version with 50 watts. Each model has been tuned
to have a slightly different character, differing not
only with regard to their wattage and preamp details,
but also in the choice of power tubes.
The compact STM Dual and Quad EL84 combos, with a single
12” speaker and 20 or 40 watts respectively, were designed
to
have as broad a tonal spectrum as possible, hence their
EL84 power amp tubes. The STM DUAL 6L6 combo model with
its 60 watts of power and pair of 12” speakers was finely
tweaked to dial in the legendary California Clean sounds,
a fact underscored by its 6L6 tubes. At the same time,
with this model British rock sounds are no problem at
all. The STM Dual EL34 head with its 50 watts of power
rounds out the line with a full-blown rock head that delivers
Clean and Crunch sounds from the “Open-Back” world with
deadly accuracy.
The two channels used in the Statesman models feature
a total of 4 sound modes: in the Clean channel, ‘Twang’
adds the quintessential character of the California sound
to the basic clean sound, while the Boost function in
the Drive channel adds extra kick to the classic Rock
Overdrive sound. In the two smaller models, both channels
share a 3-band EQ, whereas in the Dual 6L6 combo and the
head, each channel has its own EQ section. When it comes
to reverb, no compromises were made: the Statesman amps
feature an original Accutronics®-brand spring reverb to
deliver the real thing and not an imitation. A special
feature that is also quite practical is the Reverb-Balance
knob, which determines the relative level of reverb between
the two channels. More effects can be added by way of
the FX-Loop. In the EL 84 combos, the FX-Loop is hard-wired
as a serial connection; in the two larger models, you
can switch the loop to run in either serial or parallel
mode.
Important functions like channel selection, boost, reverb
and FX-loop can all be switched by foot. One 2-way footswitch
is included and a second one can be added as an optional
accessory.
All amps in the series allow the connection of an external
speaker cabinet. Matching 1x12”, 2x12” and 4x12” cabinets. |
