New firmware and a name-change for Summit Digital Mixer

Phonic has released a major upgrade for the Summit Digital Mixer – NOW CALLED S16.
The new firmware for the S16 offers improved total harmonic distortion across all sampling rates, faster interface menu speeds, and improved tap delay functionality. All three of these tweaks will no doubt improve user’s overall experience with the S16 for both live and studio application.
The first updated feature simply enhances the user’s overall audio experience with the S16. “While the mixer previously had fantastically low distortion levels,” says Phonic Product Marketing Specialist, Grant Murray, “Phonic engineers love to push the boundaries. The total harmonic distortion of the unit has been further improved across all sampling rates.”
Next, due to popular requests from live-sound engineers, Phonic has significantly improved the response time of the onboard graphical user interface. This enables users to switch through properties and parameters much faster and allowing quick alteration of EQ settings, swift adjustment of dynamics, and rapid tweaking of digital effects. The end result is a digital console ready for live application.
And finally, Phonic has made one of the S16’s best functions even better. While users were previously required to tap the tap-delay button twice to set the delay time, Phonic’s software engineers have now made it so that users can simply tap their finger on the button to set the time. The digital effect processor will then use the time between the final two taps as the delay time. The end result is a more accurate delay time.
“These are just more examples of Phonic listening to its customers,” says Caitlyn Wang, Phonic New Business and Marketing Director. “In the past four months Phonic has released five official firmware updates, each of them further refining what has already been touted as ‘a new standard’ (soundcheck Magazine, September, 2010). Phonic plans to bring many fantastic new features to the S16 in future.”
Phonic is currently developing further additions to the the series to be unveiled this year. S16 Digital Mixer is now shipping and available at major professional audio outlets around the world.
